Snow in the Ancient City

In case you know absolutely nothing about geography, it's really not common for it to snow in Rome since the city is pretty far down the peninsula and on the coast and snow just typically isn't in the forecast. As you may know, many news outlets covered the fact that snow fell in Rome for the first time in YEARS...and it was pretty magical.

Not one, but TWO days off of school and suddenly I felt like a kid all over again. Of course I slept in until noon both days, but I couldn't have been more excited to get out and see the ancient city covered in snow.

Transportation was a pain in the ass, as expected since there was maybe 2 inches of snow and Rome has no idea how to handle that. But we head downtown and took pictures of every snow-covered monument we saw. It was gorgeous and sunny, but temps were frigid, so the outing didn't last too long.

It's an experience like this that really makes me appreciate how lucky I am to be living here. Rome feels like my home, like my own city, and I miss it when I go away for the weekend. To see my home in such a rare and beautiful state really made me love my new city that much more. I've seen all of the sights many times already, but seeing them covered in this rare snowfall made me fall in love with them all over again. Roma, ti amo.
